The firm’s corporate offering spans a mix of M&A (which is a fairly large team), venture capital, private equity, capital markets, and real estate matters (among others). Sat comfortably at the nexus, “I managed to get my hands on all different types of work,” one trainee told us. Often, though, trainees are assigned to a specific subgroup, and capital markets was a top contender.
As a transactional seat, trainees sat in capital markets can expect to be dealing with high-yield bonds, derivatives, and securitizations on the daily. Sounds intense, right? Fret not: described as “a very specialized area of law,” our sources were thankful for the “complex training put in place.” With big-name clientele like Citibank, Deutsche Bank, and BNP Paribas on the books, we can understand our sources’ nerves! Clients here aren’t limited to banks, though – the firm recently advised Affinity Water (a water supply company) on its first green bond issuance, set at an eye-watering £130 million. Without a trace of irony, sources confessed to being “thrown in at the deep end,” but with comprehensive training sessions to keep them afloat, it was soon smooth sailing with things like “sorting and completing documentation for transactions.”
